HistorySwavesey Institute Football Club was founded in 1920 and entered the Histon & District League, a forerunner to the Cambs. League.
The club had some success, winning the Junior Challenge Cup in 1946-47, however it was from the late 1950's that the Club had it's most successful period. Following the 1st team's promotion to the Premier League in 1956-57 a raft of honours followed. These included winning the Creake Shield twice, the Senior Challenge Cup once and the Premier league six years out of seven between 1961 and 1968. This side were known as the "Fen Tigers", with the club badge bearing the Latin legend - "Tigris Paludis". The team also appeared in a number of other finals including the Cambs. Invitation Cup, which was also open to Semi-professional clubs. During this period the Reserves were also successful going up the leagues from Division 4 to Division 2 in successive seasons.
The Senior Challenge Cup win in 1970-71 was the peak of the successes of this period. Over the subsequent years the 1st team remained in the Premier league until the early 1980's. They did however return to the Premier on two separate occasions in the 1980's but could not consolidate this position. The Club then struggled for a number of years going down to one team only.
The Club is however now resurgent, since winning promotion from Div 4B in 1997-98 the 1st team have now progressed to Premier B. On the way further honours have been achieved, winning the Reg Haigh trophy in 1997-98 and the Creake Shield in 2002-03. The Reserves have also been reformed, winning promotion from Div 5B, to 4B in 2002-03.
